South West Pipeline Temporary Bridge

JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the South West Pipeline Project is to provide a reliable, resilient and sustainable drinking water supply to the Beaudesert Water Supply Zone (BWSZ).

THE CHALLENGE

Provide access to site vehicles and heavy machinery during the construction phase of the South West Pipeline Project.

THE SOLUTION

Proposed method is to install a 44 tonne capacity, single span (60.8m long) and 4.20m wide bridge. The bridge is to be installed near the Cedar Grove Weir, across the Logan River. There are two abutments on each side of the bridge, which was designed to suit current ground conditions and soil stability. The bridge installation proves involved launching of the bridge from one end of the riverbank to the other end. Mabey Hire Pty Ltd supplied the temporary launching rollers and necessary components to successfully launch the bridge. This project also incorporated flood calculations/ loading and special Seismic restraints to prevent uplift of the bridge in cases of flooding in this area.
